Elden Ring Mobile Game under development by Tencent Games

Updated: February 6, 2024

There are indications that the critically acclaimed action RPG Elden Ring may be making its way to mobile, with Tencent Games leading the charge.

Tencent acquired the licensing rights for Elden Ring upon its release in February 2022. Developed by Japanese studio FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco, Elden Ring, helmed by director Hidetaka Miyazaki and featuring worldbuilding by George Martin, received widespread acclaim for its open-world design, intricate gameplay systems, and captivating setting. Within a year, the game garnered numerous awards and surpassed 20 million copies in sales.

According to reports from Reuters, Tencent secured the licensing rights for Elden Ring in 2022 and initiated the development of a mobile prototype. The company envisions the mobile version to adopt a free-to-play model with in-app purchases, in contrast to the original game’s one-time purchase model. Progress on the project appears to be gradual, with no official announcements thus far.

While nothing concrete has been confirmed, Tencent possesses the capability to effectively handle such a significant IP on mobile platforms. Ideally, the emergence of Elden Ring clones seeking to capitalize on the hype will be minimized. Anticipation remains high for further developments, with hopes pinned on an official announcement to clarify the situation.
