Thekla Inc has officially announced the arrival of Braid Anniversary Edition on consoles, PC, and mobile via Netflix Games on April 30th, 2024. Originating in 2008, the original game has undergone significant enhancements and introduces new content, notably featuring an extensive 15 hours of commentary.
The anniversary edition brings a host of updates aimed at enriching the core experience of the game while maintaining its essence. Notable among these updates are “hand-repainted” graphics, allowing players to seamlessly switch between the original and enhanced visuals. The edition boasts “improved sound” and introduces “new mixes and variants of the soundtrack.”
Furthermore, the game includes over 15 hours of developer commentary featuring key figures, including designer Jonathan Blow and Frank Cifaldi from the Video Game History Foundation. According to Blow, the term “developer commentary” might be an understatement, as the commentary offers an immersive experience. It allows players to follow specific commentary threads spatially through wormholes, traversing levels to observe the evolution of concepts. The commentary is enriched with annotations, enabling the circling of details on the screen, arrows pointing to visual elements, diagrams, playback of gameplay recordings to demonstrate various strategies, and more.
Braid, Anniversary Edition is scheduled for release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and as part of Netflix’s mobile games subscription on April 30th, with plans for a later release on Mac and Linux.
